We avoid unnecessary use of hard paper and maximize the use of email to communicate and share information when safe and appropriate. Firm staff live locally, and our office is just a few short blocks from the courthouse, reducing fuel consumption. We recycle and we encourage our staff to use flex scheduling and telecommuting to reduce travel and to maximize their quality of life. Happy staff translates to a more committed team, which results in better service to our clients. We tailor our hours to our client’s needs, often meeting clients at times when other firms will not. We also use technology to help out of state clients avoid travel expenses and missed work. Video conferencing is used when schedules do not permit a live appointment.

Attorneys may advertise as “Certified” Specialists only if they are certified directly by the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization. You may see attorneys advertise themselves as “specialists.” Be mindful that such labels may lack independent review. To become a “Certified Family Law Specialist”, the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization requires applicants to pass a rigorous examination on all aspects of the California Family Code including, dissolution of marriage (divorce), legal separation, taxation, mediation, psychological issues, estate planning, custody, support and many other issues. Passing this difficult examination is just the first step towards acquiring the designation as a “Certified Specialist” by the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization.

If an applicant passes the certified specialist exam, they are then required to submit a post exam application. Applicants are reviewed by piers and judicial officers practicing in their area of tested specialty. Applicants must also demonstrate a high level of experience in Family Law. Only then is their request for the prestigious “Certified Specialist” designation submitted to a Board for final review and determination.

Certified Specialists are also required to maintain their level of expertise throughout their professional career by taking additional educational classes and seminars above and beyond those required by practitioners who are not designated as certified specialists and certified specialists must be “recertified” every five years after their initial certification.
